Join us on our expedition of contrasts, test your limits and experience the wild as never before.
The Youth Adventure Trust’s Desert Expedition will test your physical, mental and emotional limits as you discover the remote wilderness of the Namib Desert.
During this expedition of contrasts you will reach the highs and lows from mountain to sea level, experience the hot and cold of desert temperatures and see the stunning vistas of miles around only to have them snatched away by the damp fog belt that envelops the desert.
You will scale the highest point in Namibia, reaching the Konigstein on top of the Brandberg mountain (2606m), trek 54km across the Namib desert from the Messum Crater, along the Messum river until you reach the Skeleton Coast at Mile 108 and reach the top of Dune 7, the highest sand dune in the world.
Namibia is one of the least populated countries in the world, the Namib is almost completely uninhabited by humans and the numbers climbing Brandberg Mountain are strictly limited. Whilst it is entirely possible that you won't see another person other than your team mates and guides throughout the expedition, you may well be lucky enough to see leopard, baboons, oryx, ostrich and springbok.
We are recruiting a team of people to join us on this exciting expedition which will take place in November 2017. You will be self-sufficient en route and will need to carry all equipment, food and water. You will be joined by an experienced guide at key points in your journey and a support vehicle will follow the team across the desert.
Each team member will be asked to cover their own direct costs (c. £3,000) and fundraise £3,000 to fund the Youth Adventure Trust's work with vulnerable young people. We will be with you every step of the way. We offer training weekends, give plenty of advice and guidance on event preparaton and support you with your fundraising to ensure that you have an enjoyable and memorable experience from start to finish.
