Do you have what it takes to complete 10 peaks in 10 hours?
The Youth Adventure Trust’s Ten Peaks Challenge is back! BUT this year's event is going to be even bigger and better. To celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2017, we would like to find 25 teams who are willing to take on ten of the Brecon Beacons’ highest peaks in ten hours and raise funds to help the Youth Adventure Trust’s to support work with vulnerable young people.
On Saturday 10 June 2017, you and your team will take on the challenge of completing 10 peaks in 10 hours in the Brecon Beacons - we can't promise sunshine (it's Wales after all) but we can promise glorious scenery and a rewarding experience we are sure you will enjoy.
Teams will need to come to the Manor Hotel, Crickhowell, between 7pm and 10pm on Friday night to register, have your safety briefing and meet our team.
It's an early start on Saturday morning, with a day of hiking a figure of eight route beginning and ending at the Eastern Storey Arms carpark. The first loop of around 5 ½ hours takes in six peaks. The second loop of four peaks should take you around 4 ½ hours. In all its around 34km with an ascent of 1695m.
At just over 34km with an ascent of 1695m, it’s no walk in the park (!) and you will need to be prepared. However when it’s over you will have a huge sense of achievement, both in knowing you have succeeded in completing the challenge but also that your team will have raised £1,500 for the Youth Adventure Trust’s work with vulnerable young people.
To celebrate your success, at the end of the day, we will be inviting all participants to join at the Manor Hotel in Crickhowell for the ‘after-party’ and prize giving, hosted by the Youth Adventure Trust.
We recommend teams of 4-6 people but no less than four so that no-one is left alone at any point. You will need to ensure that two members can navigate with a map and compass and the whole team must finish together. You will be timed and yes there are prizes!
Our Event Registration and Briefing and the Saturday night ‘After-party’ will be held in Crickhowell at the Manor Hotel. Therefore, we recommend that teams book accommodation in or near to Crickhowell for Friday and Saturday nights. Once your team has registered we will send you a list of local accommodation with some specially negotiated discounts for challenge participants.
We do not charge an entry fee but we do ask all teams to commit to raise £1,500 for the Youth Adventure Trust. But don't worry - we are here to help you! Once you have registered your team, we will give you a call to chat about your fundraising plans and there is loads of advice in the challenge handbook.
The Youth Adventure Trust team are here for you every step of the way. Whether its advice on training, fundraising or equipment please do not hesitate to get in touch. We provide a challenge handbook and lots of helpful documents downloadable from our website but we are also just a phone call or email away if you want to talk anything through.
The 10 Peaks Challenge is a fantastic event, a rewarding challenge and a great opportunity to push your personal limits. But don't just take our word for it, here's a few things previous participants have said about it...
"Thank you so much for such a wonderful event – honestly one of the most enjoyable days I’ve had; flawlessly organised and even the weather was pretty perfect for a walk like that (apart from the fog at the top of Pen y Fan you guys really need to sort that for next year….)."
Sophie, Great Western Railway
"We had a fantastic time on the trek, really enjoyable and so well organised. The final ascent was painful but such a good feeling to reach the top knowing it was all downhill to the finish!"
Hadyn, BLB Kilminster Beer LLB
"I'd like to say thank you! Thank you for organising the event, thank you for everything you do for the charity, but most importantly thank you for your support this weekend. You and your team are incredible. At each checkpoint we were reminded of how well we were doing and how proud they were of us. It really gave us the boost we needed to keep going."
Katie, Cotswold Outdoor
