Ellis Brigham 10 Peaks Challenge 2018

22 teams take to the hills and raise £35,000 for the Youth Adventure Trust. Read on, to find out more about the highs and lows of this year's 10 Peaks Challenge.

“10 Peaks in 10 hours – is that even possible?!” one participant said. It was 6 o’clock in the morning on Saturday 9th June when 22 teams gallantly turned up to undertake the 10 Peaks challenge for the Swindon and Wiltshire based charity, the Youth Adventure Trust. Between them, the teams raised over £35,000 which will all go towards helping vulnerable young people from the local area.

Sponsored by the outdoor clothing company Ellis Brigham and supported by Nationwide’s ‘Colleague Charity Funding Programme’, teams included Swindon businesses Intel, Nationwide and PGL as well as Gleeds, Sanderson Weatherall and Hargreaves Lansdown also based in the South West.

The weather in the Brecon Beacons can often be unpredictable and true to form, the day started with low cloud as teams set off into the mist. Unlike last year however the rain held off and as teams embarked on their epic 34 kilometre hike the clouds slowly cleared, and teams finished tired and weary in glorious sunshine and blue skies, and most of them in or around the ten-hour mark!

Youth Adventure Trust CEO, Mark Davey praised the 10 Peaks’ participants:

"Building resilience in the face of challenge is what the Youth Adventure Trust is all about and the teams certainly displayed that! They had to work together and showed a real determination to finish."

In total, the teams have pledged over £35,000 in sponsorship, enough to fund 10 places on our programme. We would like to thank all the businesses that took part as well as our sponsor Ellis Brigham and Nationwide's Colleague Colleague Charity Funding Programme, whose support has meant that every penny raised by the teams will go towards our work with vulnerable young people from Swindon and Wiltshire.
