We’re excited to invite your school to join Trainer Tuesday, taking place this Autumn term.

Ask your students to have a day off from their school shoes and remind them to go outside.

It’s really easy for you to get involved – all you have to do is pick a day and invite your students to wear their favourite trainers to school instead of their regular shoes!

For a suggested donation of just £1 each, students can become ‘Shoe-per Heroes,’ helping the Youth Adventure Trust to provide more outdoor adventure and one-to-one support for vulnerable young people.

We believe that it’s so important for young people to spend time outdoors. And it’s not just us – a study by Natural England found that 83% of children interviewed said being in nature made them very happy, and 92% said they felt calm and relaxed when they were in nature. Once your school has registered, we’ll send you some fab resources to share with your students to give them 30 ideas to find some outdoor happiness.

Trainers are synonymous with being active, something we want to encourage young people to be.

Here’s how it works:

  • Pick a Tuesday: Choose any Tuesday between September and December that suits your school best.
  • Swap your shoes: Students wear their favourite trainers to school
  • Donate: Each student brings a suggested donation of £1
  • Inspire: All participating schools enter a draw to win an exclusive Zoom talk with real-life adventurer and author Alastair Humphreys, who will share his inspiring stories of adventure and resilience.

By taking part in Trainer Tuesday, your school can make a big difference in the lives of young people who face significant challenges. But it’s even more than that – it’s also a simple, fun way to encourage getting outside and boosting mental wellbeing among your students.

We will send you:

  • Posters to display around school
  • Social media posts that you can use to promote Trainer Tuesday
  • PowerPoint slide and video so that teachers can talk about it in class or in an assembly
  • Lesson plans covering resilience and how your students can build it
  • 30 Days of Outdoor Happiness leaflets
