Challenge Volunteers help us to make sure our fundraising challenge events run smoothly, and participants feel supported and have a great experience. Our events range from team hiking events, to multi activity challenges including canoeing, mountain biking and climbing mountains. People take part in our events to raise vital funds to support our work, and push themselves to their limits in all weather and terrains. Volunteers act as essential support and motivation on the events, helping teams to find their way, passing on important information, cheering them along, and celebrating the achievements of each and every participant. Whilst beautiful, the environments can also be challenging; from the Lake District to Snowdonia, the Peak District to the South Downs, Challenge Volunteers have the opportunity to visit some of our most picturesque areas, but must be resilient, able to cope with early starts and long days, and ready for all weather conditions.

  • Requirements

Applicants must be aged over 18 years old.

No special skills or experience are required, however volunteers should be engaging, motivating and able to enthuse participants.  Our Challenge Volunteers are representing the charity throughout the event, and as such should be professional and responsible at all times. Event days can be long, with very early starts, and usually involve long stretches outside whatever the weather, so resilience and some waterproof clothing are a must!

You will be required to arrange your own travel to the event, travel expenses will be covered where applicable.

  • Support

In preparation for your role you will be given information and guidance by a dedicated Volunteer Manager. They will explain the event details, and the expectation of the role you will play as a volunteer. You will be given all the information you need, including a kit list, venue particulars and details on who will be your YAT point of contact during the event. Afterwards the Volunteer Manager will be in touch to hear about your experience and facilitate any related travel expense claims. The feedback our volunteers offer is of great value to shaping future events, and the participant and volunteer experience.

Accommodation, breakfast and evening meals will be provided during the event.
